Company Profile
ExpandOnline is a Web Design & Development Studio based in the market town of Royston in Hertfordshire. We work with our clients to create great looking and well built business websites that address the needs of the business & perform well in the search engines.
Founded in early 2006 by Peter Walter, ExpandOnline has grown from it’s beginnings as a ‘back-bedroom’ home business to the successful business it is today. ExpandOnline now operates from it’s office in Royston, which is ideally positioned with communication routes to London, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire.
We like to make great websites & we like to make happy clients , and as a direct result we have enjoyed many years of client referrals and repeat business with little need for traditional advertising & marketing. We even have our original clients on the books, and coming back for more!
Due to the limitless communication possibilities of the internet, our client base now spans the globe, with key clients in Europe, America and Canada - however for those closer to home we can offer a more personal service, with opportunity for face-to-face meetings & hands-on training.
Personal Profile
Peter is a degree qualified systems engineer and has worked within the electronics/software industry since graduating from City University, London in the mid 90’s, and has attained extensive experience in software development, product support and project management through his professional career.
Peter has grown up with computers, from writing programs for a ZX Spectrum 48K in the early 80’s, to creating his first commercial website in the mid 90’s, it wasn’t long before Peter realised he was destined for a career in IT.
Peter’s first commercial website was created in 1996 as a favour to his parents - the website catalogued and sold back-catalogue video films for his parents’ video rental library. The design & development was done as an evening ‘hobby’ project, using HTML frames & tables for layout, used hideous amounts of JavaScript, and ran from the pretty limited free hosting provided by the ISP. The website was reasonably successful considering the basic tools used, technology available & limited knowledge at the time. You can see the remnants of the MovieNET website at archive.org. MovieNET closed it’s ‘virtual’ doors a few years later when the video library closed & a buyer purchased the entire stock.
As a professional website designer & developer, I would expect to be shot if I created something like the MovieNET website today, but that was over 10 years ago and I hope I am forgiven! Unfortunately, I see some shockingly bad websites out there from so-called professionals who seem to be proud of their work
Peter has always had an obsessively keen eye for detail & a logical approach to problem solving, and it is this that has led him into the world of designing & developing professional business websites. Today, Peter is more standards and accessibility aware creating professional websites using PHP & MySQL for server-side data processing, xHTML for the content display, CSS for the visual styling, with a touch of JS for added visual behaviour. Take a look at great websites he has made & the happy clients he has generated.
Peter is available for hire, and is happy to chat about creating a new website or redesigning an old website for your business.
